Your CGI Shoot -
How It Works
Step 1

Pre Production
〰️
Step 1 〰️ Pre Production 〰️
You’ve got a product
Maybe it’s ready to ship. Maybe it’s in production but the deadlines are tight and you want to get a website finished before you have finished stock to photograph. Maybe it’s still a sketch on the back of a crumpled envelope you are sure is on your desk somewhere. Whatever you’ve got, we can work with it and build out the 3D version of the product.
Capture The Details
One of the biggest challenges with CGI is cheating the brain out of noticing that it’s computer generated. Annoyingly, our brains are really really good at working out when something is fake. It can just feel a bit off. All product models emulate every little detail that goes in to your finished product - even down to the tiny little smudges and scratches that items pick up when being handled for a shoot.

Planning

Step 2 〰️ Planning 〰️
Planning Your Shoots
Just like traditional photoshoots and art direction, I put together a few routes that we could explore with the shoot before we refine a shot list and decide exactly what you want producing for your brand
Step 3

Production

Step 3 〰️ Production 〰️
Production
Time for me to go and do my thing. The real beauty of CGI is flexibility. Want incredibly high resolution assets that can be used on a billboard or a cinema screen? I just crank up the bigness dial and hope my PC doesn’t catch fire. Want transparent back images to use on your website store page, all with consistent lighting? Come on, give me a real challenge! Want to do something that can’t physically be done in the boring real world? Now you are talking.
Oh and obvious stuff like social posts, videos, motion graphics and brochure images
Dealing With The Marketing Team
I’ve been a member of one. More than once. Maybe you are too? They sure like to change the logo at the last minute don’t they? Or feel that orange is too ‘vibey’ for this product. Or have done a collaboration with a local key cutters and want to see what the product would look like if it was balanced on top of a giant key.
Because we’ve built everything virtually, we can reposition cameras, lights, change logos, colours, backgrounds, ‘vibes’ and giant key placements as much as they want.
Do you know how many times I’ve had to rebook a studio and a photographer because the finished product has arrived with a different coloured plastic to the preproduction samples and now our images are all incorrect? Enough times to know there is a need for CGI product photography that’s for sure.

Something Something Render Repeat
Now we’ve built your product range out virtually and created various campaign ideas, we can quickly create bespoke shoots for whatever you need. Sale imagery, Black Friday Campaigns, introducing a new colourway to the range. Drop me a message and I’ll produce new assets for you.
So…. How Much?
Obviously the cost depends on the project we are working on and what you need as your final files, but I charge at a half day rate of €200 and if I go over budget on a quote then that’s on me, not on you. To give you a rough idea, modelling and texturing a single product would typically be a half day’s work, then lighting and rendering out a scene would be an additional half day. From this point on, if you wanted to use that product in additional shots, there would be no need to remake and remodel and the process becomes much faster.
If you’ve got something specific in mind, let me know and we can get on with it, or we can discuss developing out a visual plan for your brand in more detail.
